I really want alpacas someday. Caroline, mom told me a while ago that as a Christmas gift or something you donated money to some alpaca thing where the money goes towards raising alpacas in third world countries so people can sell the wool for money. Woohoo that was a long sentence.
I want a bunch of alpacas so I can sell their fuzz and then donate it all to that same organization thing. Sounds like a pretty awesome plan, I must say.
Yeah, Beaner! Check out Heifer International (www.heifer.org). They're a nonprofit that works to end poverty by giving people in developing countries the means to support their own incomes and to supplement their nutrition. Often these people are so poor they don't have access to things other than whatever grows in their own backyards. Heifer often give animals as a way for poor farmers to boost their income whether that's through selling the milk, meat or wool from the animals. The farmers are also given training, and they are required to pass on the animal's offspring to another local family in need. They also give seeds and stuff (as a vegan, I wouldn't donate an animal whose main purpose was to be meat or give milk). Alpacas and llamas are huge helps to people in certain regions of the world, as they provide transportation and wool, which keeps them warm and provides a source of income.
ReplyDeleteSo that's what I got mom for xmas - I donated an alpaca to someone in the world who could use it.
Now, I'll happily donate the money to YOU if you want alpacas...just find the land first.
Yeah, I want a big lot so I can have alpacas, horses, goats, etc. Over the summer I found out that I prefer to be around horses and caring for them rather than riding them, so I think I'd be fit for owning barn animals. :) I also brought up the idea today that I want to build an eco-town. That would be the jam.
