Look, I'm posting, Merdifmerdif. It's snowing like bajeezus here today, so I'm the only one in the office. (Interwebs time!)
Anyways, I'm generally liking life right now. I've been working on some things I've wanted to improve on lately: get off my psychomeds, stop drinking coffee/caffeine, get back into the shape I was in 1.5 years ago, and start living in the moment/stop worrying so much.
So far: I'm off the meds! It's only been 2.5 weeks since I totally went off them, so we'll still need to see how I'm able to function without them for a while.
I've stopped drinking coffee everyday! Most days I don't even have it anymore, but I'm allowing myself unlimited tea (but only decaf/herbal after 4pm). You've known me for a while - this is huge.
Getting in shape.....ehhhhhh......we're getting there. I quit my gym membership last May because I was like, I play roller derby 2 or 3 times a week, and it's nice out, so I can just go for a run for free whenever. But running just never really happened, and no gym meant to weight lifting. Now I've got my gym membership back, it's just really hard to find times to go when I'm not at work or derby.
And living in the moment is just hard when so many more moments are coming up to worry about!
And yeah, so I got into this Leadership Development Institute at my agency, and I'm really excited about it! I'll be able to tell you more when it starts up.
So I'll be swinging thru DC on February 18 on my way down south for a southern roadtrip with Julia. We'll stay the night, leave Foofman with you, and then we'll be back on the 27th. We're going to try to leave early both of those mornings to be able to spend a good amount of time with you little girls. Sally, sorry, but you're the odd one out this time.
Something that I learned from a book I bought recently (The Doctors 5-Minute Health Fixes) is that drinking up to 5 cups of coffee a day is actually good for you. But I still think coffee is gross. I like the smell though.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the Leadership Development Institute???
FOOFMAN
Foofman!
ReplyDeleteLay off the coffee, I remember when you would come home from Caribou all the time and I avoided you because you smelled like puke.
I don't know if that's what I still think of it, but you know me and my 6 year old mind.
Bean, was that study conducted by STARBUCKS, by any chance?
ReplyDeleteThe Leadership Development Institute:
ReplyDeleteI work for Community Action Youth Programs, which is a part of Community Action. CA has about 360 employees. Every year, they select ten employees that they believe are "emerging leaders" in the non-profit sector to undergo this year long program. The program is basically a mini-MBA in non-profit management. (MBA = Masters degrees in Business Administration). So while I won't leave the program with an actual master's degree, I'll get to take some classes that show "snapshots" of all of the material that I would learn if I were to get a MBA. What's really nice is that this is free, that Community Action pays for all my books and materials and PAYS ME to go to class.
ZING!
Pssh. "A recent long-term study of 130,000 men and women 18 to 90 years old found that those who drank 4 or more cups of coffee a day had an almost 18 percent lower risk of heart rhythm disturbances. ... A National Institutes of Health (NIH) study of more than 86,000 women found that those who drank 4 to 5 cups of coffee a day were 26 percent less likely to die from any causes than those who didn't drink coffee at all." -The Doctors 5-Minute Health Fixes
ReplyDeleteSo the program is similar to college?
